पेट्रोल से गाड़ी नहीं चलती और पेट्रोल के बिना भी गाड़ी नहीं चलती
शास्त्र भाषा : निमित्त से कार्य नहीं होता, और निमित्त के बिना भी कार्य नहीं होता
सामान्य भाषा : यदि पेट्रोल से गाड़ी चलती हो तो एक गाड़ी जिसका इंजन खराब है उसमें जब पेट्रोल डालो तो वो चलना चाहिए, परंतु ऐसा देखने में नहीं आता। यदि पेट्रोल के बिना भी गाड़ी चलती हो तो पेट्रोल बिना डाले गाड़ी चलाके दिखाओ ― तो ऐसा भी देखने में नहीं आता।
एक कार्य के होने में अनेकों निमित्त कारण उपलब्ध होते हैं परंतु वो मात्र ‘निमित्त’ कारण हैं, उपादान कारण तो उस वस्तु की तत समय की योग्यता ही है। अर्थात गाड़ी, गाड़ी के कारण ही चलती है, पेट्रोल के कारण नहीं। पर जब जब भी तत समय की योग्यता से चलती हुई गाड़ी नज़र आएगी तो उसको चलाने में निमित्तरूप पेट्रोल भी अवश्य नज़र आएगा।

उसी तरह जब पेट्रोल गाड़ी में डालते हैं और गाड़ी चलाते हैं तो गाड़ी को तो उस समय चलना ही था, बाकी पेट्रोल, चलाने वाला, यह सब लग तो रहा है की निमित्त की दृष्टि से चाहिए लेकिन वास्तव में क्रमबद्ध पर्याय से, पर्याय का योग्ताय रूप से द्रव्य में विद्यमान रहना, और एक द्रव्य दूसरे द्रव्य का कुछ नहीं करता, इस प्रिंसिपल से यह सिद्ध होता है कि गाड़ी का चलना अपने आप में स्वतंत्र है। गाड़ी के प्रत्येक परमाणुओं में यह जानकारी पहले से ही विद्यमान थी कि उस समय पर उनको चलना है।
(यह मेरी क्रमबद्ध पर्याय कॉन्सेप्ट की अंडरस्टैंडिंग है। हो सकता है कि मैं गलत हूं।)

The explaination used in video is the major difference in interpretation of shastras by Digamber sects.

Some believe, nimmit does influence.

While others believe that nimmit is just present or ‘appears’ to be influencing but does not actually influence.Nimmit is just present and only Upadan is essential.

There should be debate on this. Because this interpretation totally changes the view to study Jainism.

Also, electromagnet when brought above iron scrap, those iron particles fly up in air and stick to magnet. More particles stick to place where strength is high. Everytime, you repeat, same observation. Now, everytime, you say, it was upadaan of iron scrap particle that they fly up and magnet was merely present.
Strength of electric current is increased, magnetism is increased and more particles get attracted. You still say, nimmit was just present.

Why everytime, particle behaves according to nimmit brought brought before it ?

How do you define upadan ?

  1. ‘capacity / ability’ to do a thing which is merely ability which takes सहारा of nimmit to do a work. Nimmit here is not merely present , but also influences the thing to exude / manifest its upadan / potential.

Or,

  1. The act which a parmanu has to do at a particular period of time (kram baddh).

Also, in video, it is said that same teacher (nimmit) teaches , but all results are different, so it is only upadan of child that is responsible when a child learns something.

But, if you think that there are 2 different schools where a subject teacher(nimmit) is very good in one school but bad in other school. All students work hard (upadan). But, when board copies are sent for checking outside, good teacher students perform better. What made the difference and that too in that subject only ? Did nimmit (subject teacher) not play any role ?
Or, if it was upadaan only that all students in one school were bad in studies and that too in one particular subject. Also, why students complain that they faced problems in one subject because the teacher could not explain good. Where did their upadan went which played role in other subjects without influence of nimmit ?

So, this topic requires a lot of debate.

I think that this 2 minute video explains about upadan & nimmit.

You can compare this video with the above video of car and petrol.

According to me, ‘Upadan’ is potential to do a thing. Means a weak child has less potential to become IAS and a brilliant child has more potential to become IAS.

Now, nimmit is a teacher / notes. Suppose a weak child gets a good teacher and well prepared notes to study. And a good student gets a bad teacher with haphazard notes. So, the chances of weak student cracking IAS is increased and that of good student is slightly decreased with reference to potential (upadan).

So, here, a thing is affecting other thing.

Teacher / notes affect other dravya (jeev dravya/student)

Upadan matters, no doubt, but nimmit also has its influence.

But, the video of car and petrol says that car moves by upadan only and petrol was merely present.
Consumption of petrol was also independent of moving car although it appears to be consumed.

I think that this post is not relevant to the current topic - "One dravya cannot affect another. "

We cannot give ‘nimmita’ too much power other wise Siddha bhagwan will have kashay and there is no more liberation!! …because karmaan varganaye are everywhere…but because Siddha bhagwan has completely destroyed mohniya, there karmaaan varganaye does not have any power…this proves the necessity of ‘upadan’, that to ‘shanik upadan’ to be specific…for example, water starts boiling after applying heat for 10 mins…if you give heat all the power…then if I replace water with rock…rock should turn to lava and start boiling after 10 mins…which is not the case…‘upadaan-nimmitaa’ is a delicate balance brilliantly explained by Jainism and is the true nature of universe…
