What is actual reason behind सूतक-पातक?

#1

We should not indulge in religious activity which have direct contact with religious stuff.

Why is it so? Is it due to inconsistency of thoughts at that time or is there any bodily changes?

Also, is it legitimate to read religious stuff at that time on electronic device?

Please clarify.

Ye kalpana didi ne bataya tha… Ki jab hamare gharme kisi ki deat ya birth hota hai to uss time hum jayda dukhi ya khush hote hai to tb hum utna dhyaan nh lagate bhakti me swadhyay me.

Yahan par parinamo ni sthirta ki baat hai. For example ki aapke ghar mein kisi ki death ho gyi to us samay mein aapke parinaam bahut hi vichlit hote hai yadi uss samay aap swadhayay karoge toh uss samay bhi aapka dimaag ussi taraf rahega toh ye ek prakar se jinwani ki avinay hui. Aise time pr parinamo ko sthir krna bahut mushkil hota hai isliye iss samay mein sutak aur paatak lgta hai.

@sanyam_jain @Ayush

But as far I know, Sutak Patak only happens on same blood relation.

Their might also be a possibility that our thoughts get inconsistent from the death of any non family member and stay consistent even after death of any family member with same blood relation (dur ka rishtedar).

But the Sutak is only acceptable in the latter case.

What if the relative lives in other country and we don’t have any feelings attached to him/her? Then also, will we consider not doing religious activities?

#6

@Sowmay
It can be the case that our thoughts get inconsistent from the death of any non family member and stay consistent even after death of any family member with same blood relation but we are more related through thoughts to our relatives and anyone is not able to make a perfect policy. So, I think they made it only for relatives and only for three genrations.

Yes, even if the person live far away, it’s a common practise to not do any religious activity. Don’t know exact reason though.

#8

Is there any scripture reference for Sutak-Patak? Or the rule is created by society itself?

#9

Also, it’s not necessary that the inconsistency of thoughts stay for the exact days stated in the scriptures. If a baby is born in your family, the inconsistency of thought can last longer than 13 days, dame can be the case when someone close dies.
I too want to know the reference of the scripture in this regards.

Yes, the real reason for Sootak and Patak is inconsistency of thoughts and Feelings. And clearly, it can happen when our non-family deceases or otherwise. I have not come across any references from our scriptures regarding this. But, I think that this ritual is also gained from the Hinduism from the mughal-era.

@Sowmay @Mitali_Jain I thought sutak paatak was because of the ashuddhi that happens due to the death or birth of a person because back then in the 4th Era. Most infants were born in home only and most people died in home only(except those who took sallekhna).

What do you think?
