Supreme Forgiveness

खम्मामि सव्वजीवाणं, सव्वे जीवा खमंतु मे ।
मित्ती मे सव्वभूदेसु, बेरं मज्झं ण केण वि ।।४।।

I forgive all living beings and may all living beings forgive me: I cherish feelings of friendship towards all and I harbour enmity towards none.

Supreme Modesty

कुलरूवजादिबुद्धिसु तवसुदसीलेसु गारवं किंचि ।
जो णो णवि कुव्वदि समणो मद्दवधम्मं हवे तस्स ।।४४।।

A monk who doesnot boast even slightly of his family, handsomeness, caste, leaming, penance, scriptural knowledge and character observes the religion of humility.

Supreme Straightforwardness

जो चिंतैइ ण वंकं ण कुणदि वंकं ण जंपदे वंकं।
ण य गोवदि णिय-दोसं अज्जव धम्मो हवे तस्स।।५१।।

He who does not think crookedly, does not act crookedly, does not speak crookedly and does not hide his own weaknesses, observes the virtue of straightforwardness.

Supreme Truth

सच्चम्मि वसदि तवो, सच्चम्मि संजमो तह वसे ससा वि गुणा।
सच्चं णिबंधणं हि य, गुणाणमुदधीव मच्छार्णं।।196।।

Truthfulness is the abode of penance, of self-control and of all other virtues; indeed truthfulness is the place of origination of all other noble qualities as the ocean is that of fishes.

Supreme Purity (उत्तम शौच)

समसंतोसजलेणो, जो धोवदि तिब्ब-लोहमल- पुंजं।
भोयण-गिद्धि-विहीणो, तरस्स सउच्चं हवे विमलं।।100।।

One who washes away the dirty heap of greed with the water of equanimity and contentment and is free from lust for food, will attain perfect purity.

Supreme Self Restraint

वय समिदि कसायाणं, दंडाणं तह इंदियाणं पंचण्हे।
धारण- पालन- णिग्गह चाय-जओ संजमो भणिओ।।101।।

Self-restraint consists of the keeping of five vows, observance of five rules of carefulness (samiti) subjugation of (four) passions, controlling all activities of mind, speech and body, and victory over the senses.

Supreme Penance

विसयक्साय - विणिग्गहभावं, काऊण झाणसज्झाय ।
जो भावइ अप्पाणं, तस्स तवं होदि णियमेण ॥102॥

Penance consists in concentration on the self by meditation, study of the scripture and restraining the senses and passions.

Supreme Renunciation

जे य कंते पिए कं पिए भोगे, लद्धे विप्पिहिकुव्वइ ।
साहीणे चयइ भोगे, से हु चाइ त्ति वुच्चई ॥104॥

He Alone can be said to have truly renounced everything who has turned his back on all availble, beloved and dear objects of enjoyment possessed by him.

Uttam Aakinchany

होऊण य णिस्संगो, णियभावं णिग्गहित्तु मुहुहंदं ।
णिंददेण दु वुद्धि, अणयारो तस्साऽऽकिंचणं ॥105॥

That monk alone acquires the virtue of nonpossessiveness, who renouncing the sense of ownership and attachment and controlling his own thoughts, remains unperturbed by the pair of oppiness and misery.

Supreme Celibacy

जह सीलरक्खयाणं, पुरिसाणं जिंदिदाओ महिलाओ ।
तह सीलरक्खयाणं महिलाणं जिंदिदा पुरिसा ||115 ||

Just as women become censurable
by men observing celibacy,
similarly men become censurable
by women observing celibacy.
