गृह चैत्यालय आगम सम्मत या नहीं?

क्या गृह चैत्यालय ( घर में मूर्ति विराजमान करना आदि ) आगम सम्मत है?

Yes, it is aagam sammat. Many kings used to have a temple in their Palace only in the 4th Era.

However, there are a few rules I’ve heard of -

  1. The chaityalaya should be on a separate floor/room altogether if possible. (Floor would be better)
  2. The chaityalaya should not be present in a room where people live, eat, sleep, dine, bathe etc. For example : There is a drawing room. So it should not be that the chaityalaya is also situated in some minor part of the drawing room as that area is prone to be impure.
  3. All activities should be performed in a chaityala regularly and timely just like it happens in an actual temple.

If there are any more rules then someone can guide about them. But these are the prominent ones that I know of.

  1. The चैत्यालय should be situated in such a place that no one is able to walk just above that portion. Usually, there is a शिखर to avoid such a situation. But, at home, one should keep in mind that there is no construction exactly above the चैत्यालय.

Even though we have discussed abt the precautions for having a गृह चैत्यालय, I still have doubts. And I guess that is why the question was raised. So,

Have to find something substantial to support this…

गृह चैत्यालय पर चा. च. आचार्य शांतिसागर जी का अभिमत

घर में प्रतिमा विराजमान करो
मैंने कहा था-“महाराज हमारे पिताजी बहुत वृद्ध हो गये हैं, शरीर शिथिल हो गया है, घुटनों में दर्द रहने के कारण जिन मन्दिर जा नहीं सकते, क्या उनकी धर्म साधना के हेतु घर में जिन भगवान की मूर्ति ला सकते हैं ?"

उत्तर में उन्होंने कहा-"अवश्य मूर्ति विराजमान करो। बाद में उन्होंने एक मराठी की कहावत सुनाई-"ज्याचा घरी नाहीं जिना चे दर्शन।जनावे श्मशान घर त्याचे (जिनके घर में किस भगवान की मूर्ति नहीं, वह घर तो श्मशान तुल्य है।)"इस प्रकार अनेक ज्ञानी मुनियों ने कहा था। धर्म से अनभिज्ञ गृहस्थ इस आगमोक्त कार्य की निन्दा कर पाप का बंध करता है।

आगम सम्मत होने पर भी जो उनका यथा स्थान निषेध किया जाता है, वह भी कारण वश किया जाता है, अतः इस चर्चा में उन कारणों को भी यथासंभव बताने की कोशिश की जाए। @AnumeyJain जी और @jinesh जी ने कुछ बताए भी है।

There is another point to remember if I can recall correctly -

A grah chaityalaya should not be near places where negative environment and vibes are aplenty. Such as crematorium, burning ghats, slaughterhouses etc as such an environment is physically and spiritually impure.
