अन्धकार आंखों से दृश्य होता है। जो दृश्य होता है (दिखाई देता है) वह पुद्गल का रूप गुण ही होता है क्योंकि वह उसका विशेष गुण है। अन्य समस्त द्रव्य अमूर्तिक होते हैं, तो अंधकार का अन्य किसी भी द्रव्य की पर्याय होने का प्रश्न ही नहीं उठता।
इस प्रकार अंधकार पुद्गल द्रव्य की पर्याय है।

Blinds also see darkness without eyes.
So how come non-living atoms(pudgal) come into picture here?
Those who are blind, don’t ‘‘see’’ darkness. The person who hasn’t seen light through his eyes, can’t experience darkness though his eyes only.
What blind people see is nothing. We quote it ‘darkness.’ However that ‘darkness’ is different than what people with eyes see.
Whatever sees by eyes is Pudgal, when eyes open - it see different colours, when eyes close, it see black colour (i.e. protection cover from inside), so it is also Pudgal as colour is property of Pudgal.
